I began this journey, as I often have, motivated by a selfish idea: to walk the entire 1,200 miles of California coastline in 2017, and to enjoy the natural beauty and riches it has to offer. However, what began as a selfish idea blossomed into an idea that would will continue to motivate me for the remainder of my lifetime: to be an advocate for the coast and furthermore, to advocate for the protection of California’s coast, so that future generations may be able to enjoy the natural beauty and wonder of a coast we are all connected to.
In cooperation with the California non-profit Coastwalk, this idea has been actualized. Together, we are working diligently to raise awareness about the issues regarding conservation, while raising money to help children and families experience the wonderful programs Coastwalk has to offer. Coastwalk is a non-profit organization that plans yearly “Coastwalks”, which provide individuals and families the opportunity to experience the California Coastal Trail guided by a Coastwalk leader with years of experience hiking the California coast.
Our fundraiser will focus on the Sonoma Family Adventure, which Coastwalk offers to encourage and promote conservancy and knowledge through education. Along with a guide and under the supervision of a Coastwalk leader with years of experience hiking the California coast, children and families will embark on a 3 day/2 night hiking adventure, filled with storytelling, discovery and hot meals.
